A mahogany, freestanding Boot Jack that can be attributed to Gillows.
To use the Boot Jack you stand on the platform and place your booted foot into the cut out to the front. It is also shaped to take a spur if fitted to the boot. The long, swinging tongue rests on the top of your boot to add to the leverage. The uprights are turned as classical columns and the hand grips have a subtle, pleasing shape.
The Boot Jack is not marked but is a known Gillow design. Early 19th Century.
